Beekeeping Resources

This page is for fellow beekeepers, whether beginner or seasoned (but particularly for beginners), who are looking for resources to learn and grow their beekeeping knowledge with. It is a work in progress, and I will add to it as I go.

Without further ado, here are my go-to recommendations for folks starting out or looking to expand their Ontario beekeeping knowledge. I aim to update this annually, but if a link isn't working or a resource appears out of date, please do let me know!

  • Ontario Beekeepers Association

The Ontario Beekeepers' Association easily offers up one of the most helpful spaces to support new Ontario beekeepers, and they have a whole section dedicated to good beekeeping, including free info sheets and online courses. I highly recommend their online Apiology 101 class for folks who are thinking of keeping bees, but aren't sure where to start!

Some of my favourite beekeeping books are also from the OBA, and I sell them in my books section.

  • U of Guelph Honey Bee Research Centre

if you're an audio-visual learner, the University of Guelph's Honey Bee Research Centre has a wonderful selection of How-To videos on youtube that are a key resource for new Ontario beekeepers.

  • Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Agribusiness (OMAFA)

The Ontario government has also gone to great lengths to provide good information that helps beekeepers maintain healthy beehives as well as resources addressing everything from regulatory requirements to funding that small apiary businesses may have access to.

Find info sheets about pests and diseases (including mite treatment thresholds and recommendations) here.

If you're keeping your bees in Ontario, this resource is a no brainer!
